Participation in the Waiting

from Rediscovering Faith · host Rev. Evan Ryder

Send us your questions and reflections! In today’s Advent episode, we explore Moses’ encounter with God at the burning bush in Exodus 3:1–10 and discover a surprising truth about waiting: God often invites us to participate in the very rescue we’ve been praying for. While Moses is living an ordinary, quiet life in the wilderness, God breaks in with a mission—because waiting well isn’t passive. It’s about staying faithful, attentive, and ready to respond when God interrupts our routines with His purposes. We’ll reflect on how God reveals His heart to Moses: He sees the suffering of His people. He hears their cries. He knows their pain. And He comes down to deliver them. But God’s rescue comes in an unexpected form—He sends Moses. In the same way, God still works through His people today. Advent reminds us that the ultimate “coming down” is fulfilled in Jesus, the Word made flesh (John 1:14). Just as God sent Moses to embody His compassion to Israel, Jesus came to embody the full presence and rescue of God for the world. And now, through Christ in us, God continues to draw near to others through our obedience.Today we consider what it means to live with a heart that says, “Here I am,” even when we feel inadequate or uncertain. Waiting well means trusting that God can use ordinary people, in ordinary places, to accomplish extraordinary purposes. The episode ends with a simple practice—the “Three-Minute Interruptibility Test”—designed to help you slow down, listen, and recognize the places where God may be inviting you to join His work.If you’ve ever wondered how to wait with readiness, hope, and openness to God’s calling, this episode will guide and encourage you as we continue our journey toward Christmas.
