PAS – Debates Within

It is now the turn of PAS and its leaders to take the spotlight in the ongoing Selangor MB controversy. Party President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in particular has emerged as a target of anger for those who consider his actions detrimental to future of Pakatan Rakyat. Observers of the Islamist party, which has administered the state of Kelantan continuously since 1990, note that there is an ongoing debate within the party over its direction. A recent reflection of that debate is the formation of Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia, an initiative by PAS members who want the party remain in PR. It was launched on August 31 in Kota Bharu.
