Pastoral Epistles: 1 Timothy 5:2 - Caring for Widows

from MOOR of the Word with Pastor Chuck Pourciau · host Dr. Chuck Pourciau

As we navigate through the Bible, we see that God intends for the husband to care for and support his wife. When a wife is widowed, that support is gone. But she is still to be cared for. Because of that, God takes special interest in the plight of women who have lost their husbands. God has no patience with those who would bring harm to a widow or orphan. Exodus 22:22-24: “You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry; and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.” That’s rather blunt, I’d say. But it shows how God is the defender of the defenseless. And he provides this defense and care through his church.
