Waking up the Lord is found not just in the thiruppavai but is a practice in all temples, the idea is that the devotee’s enthusiasm to see the Lord makes him/her wake up really really early ; much before even the Lord does. And the devotee also does not want the Lord to wake up and wait for the devotees right ? think about it – we will go into the deeper meanings of waking up some other time.
