He loved to play. One sunny morning, Patches went to the park with his friend, Lily. Lily threw a red ball. Patches ran very fast to get it. He was so excited!Patches chased the ball. He ran behind a big, green tree. He saw a little bird. He wanted to play with the bird. But then, he did not see Lily. [barking] "Woof!" Patches barked. No Lily. He looked around. No Lily. He was lost. His tail went down. He was not happy. He felt alone.Patches walked and walked. He looked for Lily. He looked for his home. The park was big. Too big! He sniffed the ground. He heard a soft sound. [meows] "Meow!" It was a little kitten under a bush. The kitten looked scared. Patches felt sad for the kitten. He nudged the kitten gently with his nose. [soft woof] "Woof," he said softly, as if to say, "Don't worry."Suddenly, Patches heard a familiar voice. [calling] "Patches! Patches, where are you?" It was Lily! Patches' ears perked up. He barked loudly. [excited barking] "Woof! Woof!" He ran as fast as his little legs could carry him. Lily saw him! She ran and picked him up. She hugged him tight. Patches licked her face. He was so happy! His tail wagged, wagged, wagged.Lily carried Patches all the way home. Patches snuggled into her arms. He was safe. He was warm. He was home. He learned that even a small puppy can get lost. But he also learned that friends always find each other. And being home is the best feeling.
