Patience is commonly extolled as a great virtue, and most of the time it is. However, as lawyers we are prone to deceiving ourselves – we say that we’re being patient, but in reality we are being something else. In this podcast I look at the question: when is patience not really a virtue? The answer, of course, is when it’s not patience at all. To highlight the problem where patience is a veneer for the real issue, I look at three examples: Where patience is just the excuse for a deeper issue; Where rather than patience, what’s holding you back is fear; and Where patience is just a basis for you to be lazy. My question for you today is this: what is it that you should be doing that you aren’t? What is it that you’re telling yourself is coming, but haven’t actually taken any steps to begin?
