Patriots Roster Moves and Preseason Depth Battles Highlight 2026

The New England Patriots recently adjusted their roster by hiring veteran running back Hassan Haskins, while simultaneously parting ways with injured rookie Myles Montgomery. As the team prepares for their initial preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, the focus has shifted toward evaluating depth at several key positions. Because most regular starters will not play, younger athletes like Kyle Williams and Efton Chism III will have a significant opportunity to secure their roles on the team. The upcoming match serves as a critical proving ground for unproven talent in the wide receiver, running back, and cornerback groups. These administrative changes and strategic player evaluations are occurring alongside major facility updates, such as the opening of the new athletics center in Foxborough. Overall, the organization is prioritizing roster flexibility and internal competition to finalize their lineup for the 2026 season.
