Paul Mete Part 1 - Migrating from Italy, Learning to use earth moving machinery in a quarry, Port Hedland, Goldsworthy

from Newmanhistory6753 Podcast · host newmanhistory6753

In this podcast Paul, in conversation with Lisa Rickert,  remembers how his family emigrated to Australia from Italy in 1953, after his father had been a Prisoner of War in Australia during WWII. He recalls how he learned his trade as an earth moving machine operator first of all by working in a quarry. He then moved up to Port Hedland, where he honed his skill on the 988 front end loader. He then moved on to Goldsworthy where he describes the very basic life in the camp, before the town was even there.
