"Paul's Letter to the Philippians — The Witness of the Apostle Paul — Risking Everything for the Sake of Christ"

In Philippians 3:8 the apostle Paul restated how he had given up everything for the sake of Christ, and, in slightly other words, counting “all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things”.  From this we could conclude simply that for Paul it was worth it all to risk everything for the sake of his Lord Jesus.  That is our theme today, Risking Everything for the Sake of Christ and His glory and grace.  As we have already seen, that led the apostle to exclaim that being “found in him, not having his own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ!  Then he said that his choice would always be focused exclusively on that which faith dictated and never on what law dictated, even Moses Law.  For, as Romans 7 makes so clear, all law encourages the flesh and short-circuits the working of God’s abundant grace.  Far better is to risk it all and to receive the abundance of grace with thanksgiving as Romans 5:17 proclaims so victoriously.  Amen.
