Pause

Relax. Breathe. Chill. Pause. In this day and age, where rush, rush, rush; go, go, go, now, now, now, is the way things are done, it's time to sit for a while. As such, I'm really proud to be presenting this set. Taking a break from the usual, this is my first foray into Chill music. It's a lot harder than you might think, really. The music has to be more in so many ways. Sound and mood and even words become more important when there's not a beat to drive them; because of that, it's taken a lot longer to bring this set, first conceived way back after Episode 3 when I first heard Carrie Skipper's "Time Goes By," and just knew I needed to share it with you all. Over the months, one-by-one, each of the songs fell into place as I heard them. And then it came time to mix them down, and once again, I broke my own rules. This set was mixed down using multi-track audio editing software, not my usual CD decks and a mixing board. It doesn't mean the computer mixed the set for me, but rather, the ability to move tracks around, nudge the mix points by fractions-of-a-second, allowed me to get this just right. It's not "live" mixing per se, but it is still me, making the decisions and choosing where the next song starts. I'm not likely to repeat this technique again, unless I do another chill set because this kind of music just lends itself perfectly to this technique. So there you have it. A departure from the ordinary for "Press Play." A departure in terms of creation and recording. And a new direction for me as a DJ. Come with me. Take a moment from your busy day. Relax. Breathe.
