Pay Up: Patriots Must Pay Christian Gonzalez After Devon Witherspoon Deal

New England Patriots set the Christian Gonzalez contract market—will the front office lock in their cornerstone cornerback before the price soars? Nick Cattles lays out how Devon Witherspoon’s massive extension resets expectations, projecting a potential 4-year, $140 million deal for Gonzalez and warning that waiting could leave the team juggling two blockbuster extensions with Drake Maye looming. Concerns intensify as injuries ravage the Patriots’ interior offensive line depth, prompting emergency signings and raising fears of a 5-alarm fire if another starter goes down. Nick Cattles spotlights standout camp performances from Romeo Doubs—emerging as a dominant WR2—and analyzes Carlton Davis’s bumpy return, Drake Maye’s hot streaks, and the “bully ball” mentality fueled by the team’s imposing pass catchers. Can New England address its depth crisis and solidify key deals before the regular season kicks off?
