PEG Interview NY Born Musical Sensation Mia Koo BIO The New York-born musical sensation Mia Koo began her journey into the arts with the classical violin in 1996. From the age of six, she studied in chamber orchestras and programs for developing musicians around NYC reaching a level 6 certification in the NYSSMA Solo & Ensemble violin contests. Her national career took off early as she embarked on House of Blues tours from coast-to-coast with her first successful act, The Kung Fu Girls. The band collaborated with Tom Higgenson (Plain White T’s) to produce their debut album, “Thinking of You.” This was all before she ever finished high school. In 2007, she broke into the pop industry collaborating again with Higgenson (who by now had formed the band) to write multi-platinum single Our Time Now (#66 on Billboard Pop 100 and #29 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks). Our Time Now was also featured as the theme song for ABC Family’s Greek, appeared on American Idol, iCarly,Wii Cheer, Sims 2, and Ultimate Band. It was also featured in the Disney Channel original movie Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board and a Norwegian commercial for As the Bell Rings. Kung Fu Girls broke up in 2009, but Mia’s career didn’t stop there. By 19, she’d already spent two years pitching to top industry artists like: ● Britney Spears ● P Diddy ● Demi Lovato ● Flo Rida ● Selena Gomez ● Enrique Iglesias ● Meatloaf ● Cher Mia co-wrote the 2014 song of the year in Norway for another collaboration titled Piñata with Andreas Schuller and Ricky Reed of Wallpaper ft. Inna, which was later released again through Atlantic Records asThe Cola Song. As of May 13, 2016, Mia has topped the Billboard Dance Electronic Album Chart at #4 (and iTunes Dance/Electronic Albums at #1) with her featured single on Markus Schulz’s new album, “Watch The World” with her track Summer Dream getting international radioplay. The following year, Schultz featured Summer Dream in a mainstage act at the EDC festival in Las Vegas. In 2020, she co-wrote Forever Forever and was featured on Armin Van Buuren’s “A State of Trance” and ranked in the show’s song of the year contest. DJ Nifra dropped remixes of Forever Forever on the 2020 releases “In Bloom” and “Follow Me 2” which reached #1 in Beatport’s Summer 2020 chart. Forever Forever also was included in John Askew’s new album “From Dusk Till Dawn II” featuring remixes from Paul Van Dyk and more, released in May 2021. Now, Mia’s collaborating with Markus Schulz again and DJ Anske to co-produce a new single Back In My Arms and new remixes for “In Bloom EP,” both dropping June 25th, 2021 on Coldharbor Recordings.
