Pegasus: The Complete Story of the Winged Horse, Bellerophon and the Fire-Breathing Chimera | Greek Mythology for SleepA slow, quiet retelling of the story of Pegasus, made for falling asleep to.He starts in a strange place. The winged horse came out of the neck of a monster at the moment she was killed — a birth that nobody plans for, from a creature everybody remembers for the wrong reasons. He flew off, and for a while he simply existed somewhere in the hills, wild, drinking from springs, the way a good story leaves a thing lying around until it's needed. Then a young man arrives who has been given a task nobody expects him to survive: a creature made of three animals that shouldn't fit together, burning everything in a kingdom. He needs the horse. There's a night spent sleeping in a temple, a golden bridle left beside him when he wakes, and after that the two of them are the best thing in the sky. What follows is a run of victories that goes on slightly too long, until the young man makes the mistake that everybody in these stories eventually makes: he decides that since he can reach the mountain of the gods, he may as well go and live there. The fall is the point of the myth, and it isn't the horse who falls. Pegasus keeps flying, arrives, is kept, and ends up as a constellation. His rider does not. Two very different endings from the same journey, which is why the story lasted. The recording itself is the usual thing. A low, even voice, no music, no sound effects, nothing that rises or drops or suddenly arrives. Slow enough that following along stops feeling necessary somewhere in the first twenty minutes. If you drift off in the hills and surface again somewhere over a kingdom, that's the intended use. Most people don't make it past the first half hour, and the rest will still be here tomorrow night.Put it on, turn the volume down, and let it go on without you.Mythology & Folklore for Sleep — long, calm retellings of Greek myths, Norse legends, Egyptian tales, Hindu epics, Chinese classics and old folklore from around the world, made for insomnia and the hours when you can't sleep. Bedtime stories for adults, told in a slow, quiet voice. New episodes every day.
