Pentecost, Year B

Today's celebration of Pentecost marks the end of the Easter season as we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit of God. The Psalm today, taken from chapter 104, is a plea to the Lord to send out His Spirit: "Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth." The Gospel Acclamation for today is taken from one of the prayers in the Catholic missal, and echoes the same petition to the Lord: "Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love." The final passage in the communion antiphon, taken from Acts chapter 2, verses 4 and 11, confirms the reception of the Holy Spirit and its effect on the disciples: "They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke of the marvels of God, alleluia."
