People Who Rise Up Pt. 3: Make Room - 11/17/2024
from The Naz Church Podcast · host The Naz Church
Pastor David MorrisonLuke 8:43-48 (NLT)- Many people think of this when they think of gaining access to Jesus: there are things and sometimes people in the way.- The story of the unclean woman that I read, in the beginning, is unique because it is sandwiched between Jesus finding out about a problem and on his way to healing a child. When I say unclean, think isolation because of her condition; religious law would keep her from worshipping and would keep others from contact with her…friends, family, etc. As I read this story and thought about approaching Jesus, I thought you would relate.Insecurities that may keep us from Jesus:1. Why should God care about my issue? Compared to others, it's not as important.2. I don't want to inconvenience or interrupt Him.3. I can't handle more rejection.4. Is God able? This is a place that Jesus loves to meet us at: at the end of our excuses, the end of ourselves, the end of our rope!As we walked through Rise Up, I heard some fantastic stories of people who reached out to Jesus. When was the last time you were so desperate you didn't care what anyone thought if you could touch Jesus? What are things I do that keep people from Jesus?- When this happens, I think it is with good intentions; intentions aren't bad.- We can be so destination-focused that we miss the people around us on the way.Rise Up is raising buildings and tools for people to reach Jesus; they are ways that we are making room. They aren’t the destination; people are the destination. - I don’t want to focus on what lies ahead and miss what God is doing now! We will unapologetically shape our messages and worship for the one...for the one who is hurting and broken and wants to touch Jesus.I see us being a people that, instead of huddling around Jesus and not letting people through - are holding something else back...we are holding back the powers of this dark world. There is a Spiritual Battle for souls, and we say, “I want to make room for You, Jesus, to do whatever You want to do. Tear down my preferences and insecurities, and let me walk towards You, Jesus.”I believe that for someone here today, you are tired, have tried everything, and want to give up, but Jesus is in the room. Will you reach out to Him?
