Perceptions of local police across Europe: Views from the inside

from Efus Podcast · host European Forum for Urban Security

How is your local police perceived in your country? That’s the question we asked local police officers from Portugal, Belgium, France, and beyond to get a real sense of the situation across Europe today. Many cities are facing similar challenges, with a striking survey from Riga revealing that over 60% of officers feel society doesn’t value their work. Is this a widespread reality? And more importantly, how can we rebuild lasting trust between police forces and the communities they serve? In this episode, local practitioners share honest insights, field-tested strategies, and inspiring initiatives to help bridge the gap. This project has been funded by the European Union's Internal Security Fund – Police. The content of this podcast is the sole responsibility of its author and he/she is solely responsible for it.
