Peropalo Festival – English

Its origin is unknown. Like any legend, the legend of the Peropalo has several versions. The most widespread tells that the Peropalo was a Jew who lived in the Sierra de Gredos, on the run from justice, and that at carnival time he would come down to the village of Villanueva de la Vera to let off steam and give free rein to his carnal instincts, conquering the hearts of the most beautiful women, dishonouring the women and taking advantage of his time to steal everything he could.
