Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972 provides that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. This law – enacted 50 years ago – helped pave the way for equality in women’s athletics.
