While Sir Walter and Elizabeth are spending their time with Lady Dalrymple, Anne is reacquainting herself with an old school friend, Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith's fortunes may have turned for the worse, but she still has an impressive fortitude of spirit. Meanwhile Lady Russell is hoping for Anne to focus her attentions in another direction and form an engagement with Mr. Elliot.
