Scott Michael LeRette and Susy Flory wrote a book called The Unbreakable Boy: A Father's Fear, a Son's Courage, and a Story of Unconditional Love. So when filmmaker and actor Peter Facinelli (Twilight, Nurse Jackie, Can't Hardly Wait) was approached to make it into a film, he had quite the journey.
