Peter Maher: The Final Yeah Baby | Calgary News

Calgary is heartbroken to lose Peter Maher, the legendary voice of the Flames for over three decades, who passed away at 79. Known for his iconic “yeah baby!” and covering 33 seasons and nearly 3,000 games—including the 1989 Cup win and the 2004 Finals—Maher wasn’t just a broadcaster; he was a beloved community figure whose warmth and devotion to family defined him beyond the mic. A celebration titled “the final yeah baby” will be held Friday at 2:30 PM at First Alliance Church (Fortieth St SE), with a live stream for those unable to attend. The Flames and fans alike honor a man who shaped Calgary’s hockey soul with passion, energy, and an unforgettable legacy.
