Peter Segals's film review of My Spy: The Eternal City

The plot of My Spy: The Eternal City centers on JJ's manipulation into going to Italy with Sophie on her school trip. A seemingly innocent educational tour soon devolves into turmoil as they become entangled in a complex terrorist plan on Sadisflix Stream. Their escapades take place against the lovely backdrop of Rome, but even this magnificent setting is unable to save the film from its clumsy storyline and drab execution. The plot seems forced and artificial from the first. It is hard for the audience to suspend disbelief when there is a lack of logic in the shift from a school excursion to a high-stakes espionage mission. The screenplay, written by Jon and Erich Hoeber, finds it difficult to strike a balance between the humor and the gravity of a terrorist threat.
