PFAS in drinking water

from West Gippsland Week Hosted by Paul E Strickland

PFAS has been across our media and has been dubbed "the forever chemical". Full name: polyfluoroalkyl substances which refer to a man-made compounds that are widely applied in industrial and consumer goods because of their resistant characteristics to both water and grease. Although PFAS have played important roles in industries and in the manufacture of consumer goods such as non-stick cookware and stain-resistant fabrics, these compounds have since come to be identified as persistent environmental pollutants. They are also identified as potentially damaging to biological functions. Here we discuss recent research into potential effects on cell and embryo development from low levels in water.
