I'm back. They were losing me. Yeah, I Even the not so great parts. Yeah, all the movies.
They have at least like a little something, you know That's yeah, I suppose varying degrees of quality like part four what they have is not always my cup of tea sure sure Things got a little stupid there for a minute a little too stupid We're gonna fucking stupid if you know they were trying to they were trying to be cheeky, you know, yeah It's hard to hard to pull off, but I like I like these these last two I loved I loved for quite a bit and I think this one feels like phantas and four part two sure right in the way that it's like Just total nonsense like yeah, we're back to nonsense But I like how it's much it feels it really does feel like a yes a continuation of four but also like Spiritually it feels like they're going for more of like an original phantas and five yeah Like this is about this is not necessarily about tall men and demons and whatever this is about a man, you know Puked in working through his own shit One million percent. Yes. Um, it's about loss. Yeah, right.
It's about now. It's about getting older, too Like learning to live with your mistakes. We're not the ravages of time granted We say this but there's also you know chunk and now the balls are bigger. Yeah, there's plenty of plenty of dumb stuff But like you not going around It's it's clear to me.
This feels like a Companion piece with Baba Hotev Thematically, you know, it feels like I don't know you you're like okay part four, you know comes out in 1998 and Like honestly the way that part four ends with like the footage from 1979 right like Reggie and like Driving in the ice cream truck and hearing like a little thing and oh, it's just a wind and then I'm driving off Is a nice way to end like the entire series. Yes, and then You know this movie comes out in 2016 Almost 20 years later, you're like this can't be good right like just like you know gut instinct You're like this is the smells the smells trouble here, right and sure you know the budget is Low and you know the effects are like this really bad. It's like, you know sci-fi original Series you know movie kind of bad the like the gunfire not lining up with the you know like the muzzle of the gun or you know Like the CG gunfire and yeah, all of the CG balls. It's it looks it really does look like absolute dog It does but I think That this is besides that like I could get past like even though the really bad CG because it's like kind of so bad I'm like alright This is just like a budgetary thing and I can ignore this And when I do that I think that this movie has it's way better than it has any right to be yeah I would agree with that I'd absolutely agree with that and I think it's a the like the very end is I think it's a great ending to the whole series, you know where it's just like you know This this just this fight is just always gonna go on is what is presented to us like directly on screen whether that's like the case or whether that's just you know You know some sort of a you know whether it's an alternate to mention or whether it's you know Just Reggie's like last flash of life in his head before he actually whether it's his his big fish Yeah, yes his big fish moment right Whatever the case may be yeah, I think it's a great way to end of the series So I mean you stick around for the the post credits of course I mean credits of course yeah, I mean fantastic six win.
Yes, let's do uh Let's do a grandma Tarkin on on on angus gram nagus gram. Yeah, they kind of did one in this like he's not doing his best he died Shortly after this was film. Yes, right shortly after this was filmed died The last thing that he shot was at the bed scene like where he's Reggie wakes up in like a hospital bed in like the 1800s And angus gram is like lying there next to me's I forget Jedia morning side and that was the last thing that he filmed and they died shortly after that not unlike The log lady not unlike the log lady. I know I thought honestly.
I thought the same thing But there's it's there are shots in this that are a bit like Tony's mom on the sopranos where they like just sort of oh, yeah, I Forget what it's called, but where they just like digitally put like angus rooms face on like a body or just like yeah Paint him standing there in the background. Yeah, it's it's rough. It gets a little rough sometimes But again the effects are bad the CG is bad in this it's not the point that also like oh like I would say also the camera Work is often bad sure like it's it's it's a it's I don't understand why it's so much greater than the sum of his parts You know yes, so this is directed by David Hartman written and Written by David Hartman and Don Casca rally so they wrote it together David Hartman was a An effects guy a visual effects guy on public hotel Interesting so cuz you think you think effects guy would take a little more care. You would have a little pride in his work I'm sure he was very busy.
This also well here's here's what I'll say about him Yeah, his picture on IMDB appears to be an AI rendering of himself. So make of that way. You are it Yes, you are correct Also this movie originally it was supposed to be New Line was going to Yet Don Casca really was trying to get a deal going with new line and a budget of like $10 million to produce the Roger Avery script of yeah, you know the whatever phantasm I forget forget what the semi-colon thing was but we kind of talked about that last week with Roger Avery and his idea for The final phantasm movie and that took was taking so long right that Don and Was it David they they got together and like why don't we just like shoot a short film here right and which they started shooting and they shot the stuff with Reggie picking up Don Like her car breaks down and he picks her up on the side of the road and all that stuff right and and then you know They film a little bit more and they film this movie ravager over the course of eight years Wow, you know in bits and pieces and over, you know, obviously whenever they can they're scraping other money that kind of thing very scrappy Very indie style, you know sort of reminds me of in London, Empire in the Empire eraser head same thing, you know Shot over I don't know what to tell you they're two sides of the same coin kind of I Mean in the sense that they're like one side is very dumb, but That doesn't you know one side is kind of melted. Yeah, that's okay, though.
That's okay Yeah, so which I thought that was kind of an amazing thing and then eventually, you know I suppose it's just like what if we just made a whole fucking movie at some point They're like we're gonna actually do this and they just shoot it like I said in bits and pieces and Yeah, this is what comes out and especially, you know, you're shooting in bits and pieces like that and money is super tight and I don't know it shouldn't work I don't think like it should work like you hear about that on paper and you're like a movie fucking 20 years after The last sequel shot over the last sequel which basically like wrapped up the whole story right comes around full circle And you're like close the loop. Yeah, and you're like all right well. No, we're coming back It should like on paper this should not work and I found myself being like this is actually Kind of good. Well, this is not like I think that part two and three are worse than this I couldn't agree more Like two and three I think the ranking on this is like pretty easy Yeah, like the series but like it's a wide gap between two and three down at the bottom and like four and five for me Sure, you know, yeah, cuz again ring the theme alarm.
Yeah, we've got themes. We have themes. We have vibes too We got vibes that you yeah, you get the like I mean you talked about how it feels It has like the original fans hasn't feel and like the emptiness of these spaces like obviously it's a budgetary thing But the the mood it creates is like and it's not Mostly not trying to do action stuff like two and three which despite their much larger budgets still feel like very empty and cavernous But not on purpose right? And I do think also the like staple feature of the Phantasm movies of just like going from place to place Yeah, you know, we've no real like trajectory or whatever or like motivation It feels way more organic when the way you're going from place to place is like being like Billy pilgrimass on stuck-in-time Ass, you know sort of like drifting between realities ass Billy pilgrimass motherfucker here Why don't you stick yourself back in time look like when you go back to your hidey hole and Dresden motherfucker?
No, obviously, that's a great treasure obviously But yeah, I think Rather than going from like the car to the cemetery to the car to the dentist Like the fact that we're just able to sort of like hop around instantaneously yes like we can just like cut It's just like a smash cut and we're back in the retirement home or whatever It's much less boring it is Every time it shifted from like nursing home to like, you know, alternate dimension or past or whatever like whatever you want to call it I was like this is this has something going on man. I'm like I am interested in this. I like yeah, I don't know Yeah, so of course, you know, it stars the main man Reggie Bannister Reggie is fifth Fantasm movie when you watch in fantastic 1979 You can't imagine that the ice cream man like the friend is gonna be like the linchpin of the entire series I'm like that's who we're gonna like end this on but that's where we're at and he's in this costume He's he's spent a lot of time in the ice cream and costume. He put it on to go to battle.
He did he suited up You got a Michael Baldwin In here, do you know what he does now? What's he do? I think you'll find it fascinating. Okay?

Also returning from the first film yep Kathy Lester playing the lady in Lavender Lavender yeah, she keeps her tits in her dress this time, which I think is a mistake, but this is where we're at okay They do put a funny goofy scary makeup on her though.
I thought look good loved that Yeah, when she turned into a scary lady. I I was like genuinely like whoa yeah Yeah, it looks really good. It's like you know, it's like kind of rubbery and fun It's like you are oh if you're saying too close the screen your head will fly. I'll be back right basically and then he goes through the gateway And then we cut to like the 1979 footage and then he's right off the ice cream truck, right?
So We pick up here with regi in the in the ice cream outfit black vest Four barrel shotgun walking through the desert. He's all fucking like kind of burnt up close a burnt and torn It's like when it's like when wily coyotes in an explosion. That's how he looks. Yeah It's all so it.
Yeah, so it but mostly fine. Mostly fine. Yeah, um, he's uh, you know, we get the uh, uh, you get a little like uh, what's it called? Voiceover with him recapping all of this kind of classic classic fan-tasm move classic fan-tasm shit My name's regi.
Yeah 30 years ago. The tall man showed up in our town. Yeah, whoa, whoa, whoa I feel like one of these women that he tries to bed. It's like, what are you talking about brother?
What do you want about? Um, yeah, he talks about that. He says, yeah, I got got all my friends and my family Now it's just me and i'm walking because somebody stole my kuda Right And then uh, he's and it's true. He's walking and a kuda somehow almost hits him.
He's yes, a cool You know on this like empty desert road in a world where everybody's dead except for regi banister. Yeah, someone someone's like, whoa, watch out. My fucker. Yeah, um, I gotta say even this which is dumb like the this like nerdy guy who steals his his kuda.
Yeah, um when he you know, regi's like, hey Can you give me a lift? So he's like 50 bucks and regi's like no problem. All right, so he gets in the car And uh, gives a guy the 50 and then they start driving and regi starts going like you know, you just have a car just like this Yes, you don't see a lot of 71 kudos out on the road. He's like, you know, uh, Parked mine over over in this desert road and you can see the guy start getting like a little like nervous about it This guy looks like a like a nerd.
He's wearing like glasses and stuff. He's like, it's very nerdy looking But he's set that real music department. Yeah, it looks like he's blowing in a music department man Um But he's going uh, you know, think about my my kuda though. I had a Like a nickel like a pearl handle.
Yeah, like desert eagle in the in the console in the center console in the center console And then the driver like real quick like opens up the center console to grab it before regi can And there's nothing in there just a screwdriver and you know, it's like this beat where he's just like, you know, you're like, oh Guns not there and the red. He's like, oh, yeah, it was in the glove box Right and just a fucking like to fuck with the guy and he grabs the gun holds him a gun point takes Oh, the guy's also wearing his clairings close too. Yeah, so he fucking he uh, uh, uh He makes the guy the guy get out of the car and take off all of uh, his clothes regi takes his clothes Leaves his ice cream his burnt up ice cream uniform for the guy And then he he gets in the car and drives off And as this is happening two silver balls appear and they start flying towards regi one of them now I Inferi at least uh love this idea. What's that?
I love this idea of a highway chase between a car and the silver balls. Yeah, I think that's cool and fun I agree Um, of course before the balls go after the car first they get the kudithi. Yes, they get him in the back of the head killing him dead Dead on the road. Yep blood everywhere and regi He's you know, he's trying to outrun this the silver ball at a certain point.
He ends up driving in reverse and shooting at it I know the window. Yeah, one of them like gets in the car and they traps it in the compartment And he like oh pops up in the glove box and then shoots it a bunch of times Um Can you hear his mouth? Yes, I can she is like right up on the microphone. She's like she has a lot to say about this movie too Um, I like when the one silver ball is like trying to run him off the road.
It's like hitting the side of his car Yeah, it's fun. Just have have the ball be a car. Yeah, have the ball be a car. Um And then yeah regi is shooting the silver ball um Using away shoots the ball drives away and then we uh Uh, we get a close-up shot of the wheel going down the road and it transitions into a wheelchair wheel And regi is in a wheelchair and he's wearing like a hospital down basically and he's being pushed by a michael ball When and which one just one of them?
Um Any old michael ball like do And regi's like what's going on here? Wait, mike. I was looking for you. Where have you been?
What's going on? Where am I right now? Right? It's all this stuff Now I'm watching this.
I'm like did mike get better at acting and it's just like no He's in a situation where it's okay to talk kind of like emotion. Let's like he's just like, you know No regi listen. Yeah, it's very like subdued Because then when he has to like Well, one of uh a michael ballman's acting techniques is no matter whenever there's like action going on He's always kind of out of breath like this All right, we gotta You know like where have we have not been running? We didn't you know, just What are you nervous?
Yeah, I don't know you ever tried acting in front of a camera. It's scary, man It's scary dude. Everyone's counting on you Everyone's counting on me. I don't know if I can do this um, but yeah, so Uh, uh, a michael ballman and he's dressed like kind of like a college professor or something He's got like got the ponytail's got glasses on he's like, hi reg has going and then he like tells him he's like reg you're always there for me And uh, you know, I I want to be here for you now Uh for the next 10 minutes and i'm going home.
I'm probably gonna leave but you're staying here. Yes, uh, the thing is my man You have early onset dementia And they're like and reg is like I don't believe you right and he's like what are you talking about man? I we like you know, we fought the tall man together and all this shit And mike's and mike's just like, you know, that's all like in your head basically Yeah, we're sort of running back the the setup of the sequel the first sequel Well, it's kind of like the first movie where it's like, you know, it's potentially all in in young mike's head, right? True, which does feel in keeping with like the it's like getting older stuff where it's like, yeah, you know That thing where you come into the world is screaming baby and you go out of screaming, baby.
Yes, yes, you know And then reg is like not last thing I remember I was on the road I was driving and I picked up this uh girl right and then we cut to him driving on the road and he picks up dawn whose truck has broken down and uh Yeah, you know, she's like, uh, it's like obviously it's like this attractive redhead and we know where this is going Unnowhere for you regi. Yeah, but not on the way you'd think not the way you'd think Um first, you know, they she's like she's very nice and she's like uh Uh, whatever like, you know, he offers to drive her to the next town She's like I'm getting the car of strangers. She's like, I'm regi. You know me.
I'm regi badness He does do that thing which is something that like child predators do in movies. What's that right where it's like I'm supposed to talk to strangers It's like well Pennywise does it well. Yeah. Yeah.

They're just kind of like yeah aiming the fireplace focusing on that gg banister also head makeup on the phantasm This movie and a few of these sequels So that's fun too. She she gets to like do the special effects.
She gets to work with the silver balls That's fun. Wait. So does she do the lady in lavender's makeup? Uh, presumably yeah She would be in charge of it at least gg my head is off to you.

I could barely remember that because he told me all this Um, it's a lot of animals once And he very briefly tries to bed her and she's like, you know, he does his famous line of being like On the road for a really long time Like anyone would care. Um, you know, I could go on the road for a really long time and I could use a fuck No, uh, she's like regi, you know in your dreams. Whatever. He's like no, no, I was just saying I was just thinking uh I was gonna write you a song Classic, so he writes a song that he wrote in the first movie kind of changes the words sitting, uh in the mountain cabin With Don etc.
It's like yeah, something about giving birth to a song. Yeah, um, I do I like this She she eventually comes downstairs and she's like, you know what actually regi Like she is going to invite him up to her room to sleep with him Yeah, but he's asleep already and she's like, oh never mind like all red. She could have gotten laid I'll just dip your wick brother. Yeah, you could have dipped the wick Not this time.
I'm not talking about when you go ponytail first into a bath I'm not talking about when you push kiana reves into a pool Not talking about when you introduced kiana reves to uh, uh, copen hagan long cut You dip the wick Uh, so yeah, I don't know then we we cut back and regi's like that's that'll happen to me Yeah regi falls asleep, right? Um, and then he wakes up and this is when he wakes up in the hospital bed in the 1800s Next to jadedai morning star or morning side, um And he's you know ready to like what are you doing here? And he's like, oh, I'm jadedai morning. I'm buddy.
Oh, yeah, he's basically buddy He's being buddy Uh, it's an incident on an off-amount road. Yeah, it's a little less like that I think because he's so old it actually makes the performance better because he can't do as much. It's not great But yeah, he's just sort of like and who are you friend? Oh, you know, it's like all that stuff And then he sort of switches he does like the little eyebrow in the he like just his jaw out He's like he's saying some stuff.
What's he saying? He's like he can't get away from me Yeah, whatever and then regi looks under the bed And who's there but the lady in lavender? Yeah, and there's there's this cool effect where like angascrim is like hanging his arm off the bed And the lady lavender is under the bed like holding his hand But like the their hands are like merge sort of merged and like connected Uh, it looks cool And it's you know, it's not like a super great effect or anything But I I appreciate that you're like oh, this is like a little bit This isn't just like they could have not done anything Sure, you know what exactly a choice was made here and they went for it, you know Yeah, and it's it is like a cool you can like appreciate the idea even if the ex-totally isn't great. Yes Um, so um, yeah, that happened so that happens then regi wakes up in the morning Um and the cat yes in the cabin and uh, he's like hey dawn dawn And he goes up to dawn's room and uh, oh a silver ball is drilling into dawn's head spraying blood everywhere You know regi didn't get to drill dawn, but no That's so ball did um again behind the scenes.
This is uh, gg banister's actual bedroom And it took her three months to get all of the blood out of everything. I believe it because I was thinking even watching It's just like that's a lot of blood. Yeah, and it's like slick They put she said they put plastic down everywhere and it went through the plastic. Oh god.
So, um, yeah, she was not too happy about it Um, but I again, I like the sort of Uh, the diy nature of it, uh, they're like we need you know, this is like a very low budget movie We have to use like your house. You know, it's almost like a student film where you're like What do we have available available to us for like free essentially and listen the tax incentives? They speak for themselves. Yeah with the banister household.
Yeah, you mean the banister movie studio? Yeah Um, yes, so um, yeah, that's happened so silver balls are attacking this little ranch, right? Um dawn's ranch. Um, she says that she has a farm hand that lives here as well to meet her Um in the barn Uh regi gears up he grabs all of his guns and he goes to the barn and demeter is in there and demeter only speaks I do got a shout out this sort of the shot of him loading up that bag with weapons sure it gets silly I certain point he pulls out known chucks he does right?
A samurai sword a samurai sword but that's like the first thing in the bag. Yeah, and it's not like a like a traditional samurai It's like a blade samurai sword. Yeah, maybe a ninja sword samurai. So it's how curved to it ninja swords are straight.
Yeah, um Ninja sword ninja sword. So yeah, he runs into the barn. There's a Bulgarian man screaming screaming Screaming yeah, don't speak a lick of English. Yeah, so any very quickly goes from bulgarians who ballgarians Silver silver balls.
Well first the balls attack the horse like regi is peeking out a crack in the barn and he looks outside and one of the balls Kills a horse drills into a horse's head and um You know blood is everywhere. I and then regi delivers Uh the fantastic line dude bad news about your horse. Yeah That inspired stuff that made me laugh hard Dude bad news about your horse So they fight the balls demeter edgies still got it my man. Yeah Um, yes, then the balls they they go into the barn.
They have to fight them Eddimeter is killed and then regi uh breaks he shoots and and kills the balls of course Um, and this is when uh, he's brought back to uh the nursing home and he snaps and he's like oh where wait And Mike is like what regi you still with me and he's ready. He's like well where what's going on and then And this is how it goes it keeps like flipping back and forth between like sort of phantasm movie and like nursing home movie Yeah, um It's an interesting saying the irish right get um So yeah, uh say a michael ballman talks to reg some more Um regi is like he doesn't quite believe, you know, what's going on here. He's like He thinks it's all men still out there. He's like a dementia guy now.

Yeah, first he's like You know, there it's like this uh, mike is like, uh, let me talk to you about I think he calls it membrane theory, but it's essentially like uh, like the multiverse right sort of collapsing on itself in Uh, universes that share continuities.
Yeah, he says there are some some some people in quantum physics who believe that there are many Universes and they touch at different spots and yes, jeez, oh, we is reg jeez always Um, yeah, so he's kind of like indulging regi here. Yeah, he's yes. He's kind of indulging regi. Um, so reg um We cut back to regi in the woods walking through the woods with like guns and his bag of weapons and shit and then uh, This I like this we're cutting we keep cutting back and forth between him walking through the woods and then him uh at the nursing home in like the sort of yard, right and he's walking around there and Both versions of him find the metal posts the gateways, right?
So both versions walk through the gateway at the same time and they come out on the other side and regi is in a big white room Uh, and tall man is standing there and he's like, uh, you know and they start talking to each other and Regi is like, uh, you know, I want my friends. I want everybody back and the tall man is like I can give you back your family your wife Your daughter, which I like this that we actually bring them back up from fucking phantasm to yeah, we haven't even acknowledged them really I think since the third movie. I don't we only ever see them in photographs. We see them in a photograph.
Yeah, a michael baldin a photograph Uh, and yeah, so regi is like uh, uh, I want you know tall man's like I can give you back your wife and daughter and he's like I like guys like fuck that I want mike and jody back what's that he's like I want mike and jody back to and Tallman's like no. No, you can't have them their mind and and regi's like no deal and tall man is like you I'll give you some time to think about it right now. Um, you're back in 1979 three days before the funeral of your friend I want to say the friend's name was tommy who's like the guy who dies in the very beginning of the first phantasm Yeah, who gets lady and lavender. Yeah, he gets fucking he gets his ass lavender in the in the cemetery Um, yeah, I think I think it is tommy right tommy jody mike reg the three adult men to boys and a an actual boy um yes in the regi is in the uh mausoleum And uh, he's walking through there and this is where uh, he runs into the lady and lavender again and she I I think this stuff looks really cool He's standing there and she is moving towards him and then we cut to like a shot of her feet And she's like direct her feet are like kind of floating and like her one foot is dragging on the ground and leaving like a mark Like it's carving into the ground.
Yeah looks cool, man I think so too. I think this is like again like weird little Choices and touches like this, you know, it'd be so easy for her to just be walking Yes And cheaper cheaper and like it you know and and nobody would know it like you wouldn't even think about it It's like whatever but like a little touch like that adds I think such a nice sort of flavor to the movie and like And it shows like like effort and value and care. Yes That you it's crazy that like you don't see more of and the effect of it is so weird where it's like okay She's floating but also she's like very heavy and dense. Yes, right?
Carving up the ground. It's crazy. It looks cool as hell And then she gets like face to face with Reggie and then we cut back to 1979 fan-thousand when lady in lavender stabs Reggie in the gut, right? And then Reggie's like wait, no, right?
And then he kind of backs up and this is when you know now like present-day lavender fucking turns evil and she gets scary face Yes, she does. She does. She just shrieks She goes And Reggie shoots her in the fucking head. Yeah Cool.
That's part of the movie cool scene It's it's it's pretty up there man Yeah Yeah, it's it's funny. This feels like the way that like You know knowing now that like okay, there's a shot over the course of eight years and they do like it's almost like a little vignettes Like okay, it's Reggie now Reggie is at dawn's house and there's this whole dawn thing Now he's in the barn and there's this barn thing now He's with the lady lavender in the smausoleum, right? Like it's all these little set pieces and they all have small touches to them that give them a little something To remember them, you know, even like the barn and him saying dude, you know that news about the horse He's like it's a weird funny line, but like that's a memorable line. Yeah, yeah And like in not a particularly dialogue heavy movie, right?
Yeah, so from there You know he fights some dwarves. Yeah, et cetera, et cetera That's when like he comes face to face with the tall man again Yeah, he goes so the end of the the hallway the mausoleum turns into like a cave and I like I like they do this in this movie There are other movies that like I like this moment when like our hero is like knows that they have to go into like a very scary place and they're like fuck like They know they have to do it and they really don't want to but they have to you know, it's like oh God, yeah, like fuck and so Reggie goes in and that's when yeah he fights a dwarf Um, and then he comes to face to face with the tall man again and the tall man gives him He's like so did you think about my offer? You know, do you want your family back? And he's like fuck you.
I don't want a bunch of zombie family members. I want mike and jody back Right. I want zombie mike and zombie jody. Yeah, I want my boys.
Yeah, um, my wife can't play guitar. Yeah, she she doesn't know Uh, she never appreciated my guitar playing. Um, the way that jody did mean jody we jammed man Uh, and the tall man, uh, it doesn't want to give him uh, anybody Yeah, there's this thing throughout where he's he's like mike's part of my plan. Yeah, he's part of my plan.
All right, all right Uh, and then red you do hey tall man. You could do better. Yeah, you do better than just some michael baldwin And red you wakes up and he's strapped to a table. He's dressed like a ice cream man again and uh And uh, uh, uh dwarf walks in wearing a gas mask But he's got a knife and I think he's gonna kill red but no he cuts the straps off And then another uh, gas mask person comes in and he's like what's going on here?
And they take off their gas masks and the dwarf is just a little person named chug chunk And the taller person is uh dawn and he's like dawn. It's me regi and she's like, I don't know who you're talking about man My name's jane. Wow can't help but think of uh, you know Mulholland drive now's gonna say cooper and uh, what's her name? Oh, um, uh, uh, yeah fucking lord doing doing sex magic Yeah, yeah, yeah, mr.
Richard and linda. Yes. Yeah, Richard and linda Uh, tomsen I was thinking that their names are Richard and Linda right tomsen. Yeah, no no no no in oh in the yes in the pix.
Yes Yeah, because I remember watching at the time I'm thinking tomsen Thompson. I want to see the bright lights tonight. What I do I love that song as a great song a lot of great songs from those two. Yeah Um, so only with the drunkards.
Yes, when I get to the border stop stop so our uh These guys they're like uh some sort of rebels. They're fighting the tall man, right and uh, they get You know, he looks there's like a body next to him and it's like this head that's like sort of split halfway open and silver ball is like Coming out of it. It's not moving. Nothing is going on.
It's just there and Chunk is like that was about to be you my man if you had uh, you know, if they got into you before we did And you know, they're like, uh, you were in a coma for 10 years He's like why he's all disoriented. What are you talking about? Like what's going on here? So they start moving through this building.
It's like an old abandoned hospital and uh him and chunk and they uh, they they come upon a A small group of more more rebels and what guy gets right right face to face with with Reggie and then he takes his mask off and it's mike Mike mike is like the leader of this band of of of rebels here. He's like Reggie. It's great to see you man and Then he tells me he feels like, you know, after you left me in the desert, you know after you went through the gateway, whatever I Walked through the desert and but yeah, the tall man. He basically like Destroyed the entire world.
Everybody got infected with tall man disease That was such a weird detail that he's like there was a pathogen Reggie. Yes. It was very lethal. It was very lethal red very lethal red Um, so he's like it's not our world.
Anyway, it's his world. We're just living in it, reg and then they look outside And it's true the whole thing's up in friggin flames. It's like hell There's a dwarf dancing on a burnt-out car. Yes, it does look like hell everything is on fire Dwarves are running around people are shooting the dwarves and shit.
Um, it looks, you know, it's all like kind of bad CG It looks like a video game or something And but the way the camera like moves it's like going down this street all the way down the street and then it's it comes up to The outside of a hospital. We've seen this hospital. This is the we're Reggie Uh the nursing home there edgy's in and then it zooms into the window when we see Reggie's face in it and Uh, we cut to Reggie in the nursing home again. He's like, wow Fuck it.
He's all fucked up. Oh, yeah I'll turn around he has all turned around and then he goes he walks out of his room and a nurse tries to Get him back to his room and then he flashes back to Phantasm world where now he's not the nurses and holding him down But one of the gas mask eyes is and then a Michael Baldwin comes up and shoots the gas mask guy in the head And he's like you got to come with me, reg and and it's all like Uh It's all of this stuff that the switching back and forth sort of keeps like ramping up now. We're doing more often now Um Then cut to the nursing home stuff. Hey, Michael or Mike comes and he's like he tells him about his dream Which is the you know, he's like I had your dream reg and he tells him that like it doesn't what we've talked He's like I woke up in the desert.
I walked for a while, right? I you know the tall man had Devastated this is where we see like the giant silver ball shoot a laser through a building and like it demolishes a building in half Yeah, which yeah, which is just stock footage of like a building being demolished that they added like a CG silver ball to It's really funny. I like it And then he's like um people start fighting with each other. It's crazy.
You see like a rod, you know, like police police riots Yeah, and then uh and that's when he's like and then everybody got sick and people said we're just exploding people said we're exploding Um I this is so cool. So it's the he starts telling a story and it's Mike In the nursing home telling it's a nursing home reggie And then the story like it's all like told in voiceover and then when we cut when we go back to Mike It's phantasm rebel my moujadeen my moujadeen Mike Um, I just I love how this just keeps shifting back and forth between these realities, you know, yeah Uh, this is all like the cool phantasm vibe that that that yeah that we love to see basically Um, basically we love to see it. You love to see it. Um, what else we got a um Mike and uh and reggie, uh, they're uh, well mike shows up at the nursing home again And he's like we got to get out of here and then cuts to phantasm like and they they're like escaping from The hospital the world.
They're like we have to go through the gateway. Uh, the tall man took jane We have to get her back. So they go through the gateway and they end up on the red planet And the tall man is there. It's uh holding jane Uh hostage right gas mask guys some dwarves are there and They're like, you know, give it back jane moujade all the stuff And then one of the dwarves like fucking snaps jane's neck or one of the gas It's just like fucking twister neck all the way around Um, and then one of the dwarves pops off its hood and it's chunk The rebel and he fucking uh, he starts, uh shooting on knives throwing knives He starts knife and dwarves throws a knife through his gas mask gas mask guys head And then he's like, uh, you're nagging next big guy or hey big guy where you think you're going right?
And he fucking like pulls up a pulls open his vest and he's got a bunch of grenades pulls up pins and just like runs up And uh suicide bombs the tall man You didn't have to do that buddy Ball probably just throwing them Um Yeah, very funny. I also think we didn't mention this but chunk hates reggie so much from the second he meets him Yeah, he's like the fuck is this bald guy? Yeah, he's calling him balding like ugly sack of shit and all this kind of Mean stuff, but ultimately he's got a good heart because he's willing to explode himself Yes, um mike and reggie go back through the gate and reggie like falls face first on the grass of the nursing home The nurses come and pick him up and he's like It was uh, it's all disoriented and then he looks over and like a tear opens up in reality and mike is on the other side And he mike rebel mike throws nursing home reggie his four barrel shotgun And then uh reggie turns around and all the doctors the nurses everybody has turned into gas mask people It's kind of kind of scary That they're all they might be shooting. Well, he's probably not shooting anybody.
Yeah, that's true That tear didn't really you know open up, you know, it's probably less unless I did Yeah, which is okay, too. That's fine. But yeah, he starts uh, he starts putting down. They call them grievers grievers Sure putting down grievers mike shoots a few of them um reggie runs through the the portal and then the like a Uh like a mad max version of the kuda comes ripping around the corner and pulls up to pick up mike and regg and who's driving It's jody jody rich It's just like so flat his hair rich.
Hey reg has a hanging and that's a wrap on jody It read is like kind still the left My penis terrible terrible Um, yeah, so again the car how old is jody Uh, you're a joty born bill the thorn berry Well, I know reggie's 46. He's 1946. So he's about 64 in this movie He looks pretty good for 64. He does look pretty good for 64 for 64.
Yeah, yeah, I'm really caveat that underscore He looks 59. Let's yeah So they're driving away and Uh mike starts telling you know, reggie sort of like out of breath like exhausted in the back seat Yeah, and mike starts telling him about the plan. He's like we're gonna you know We're gonna regroup and in his classic amichael valdwin with with the oil of Olivier He's uh, he's like i'll tell you what we're gonna do. We're gonna fight We're gonna get more guns and we're gonna go fight and we're gonna go we're gonna fight because it's cold Yeah, we're gonna fight.
It's the cold and he hits the cold so we're going up there So it's gonna be really cold. Yeah, and then we cut back to the nursing home Yeah, reggie is like falls asleep in the back of the car listening to my amichael valdwin understandable And And yes when we cut back to the nursing home, uh reg is on his deathbed and like the hospital thing is like beep beep Beep and mike is there end jody is there Um, how I don't know I guess i don't know about that because jody like died in Every reality is supposed yeah, I mean supposed to have died in every reality um, maybe Maybe jody is actually there. Maybe it's the spirit of jody just being oh jedi force ghost style force ghost jedi jody Um, and uh, and then reggie fucking dies he flatlines. I mean guys.
Yes. He does We watch reggie reggie dies at the end reggie dies at the end. Yes um, and Yeah, we're sort of left with like we see a shot of him like walking through the desert And then that's kind that's it that fucking says like, you know directed by david harkman And then you know cut to credits and then we get and then almost instantly yeah a mid credit Uh like scene where we see a gate and chunk the suicide bomber Comes like flying through the gate right his hand has been blown off Um, he's very singed again wily coyote style, but seems to have not been as supposed to own it I love this uh his little explanation for what happens here. So he's laying there right in r- uh, sorry, uh someone To him sure it's rocky from it's rocky dress like a tuskin raider She's got everyone's got the man max goggles now tuskin rocky.
Yeah tuskin rocky. Um, I could be rocky belvoa Could be from tuskin Some people say it's right like a big pizza by this a movie and the uh, so there's a rocky Yeah, so chunky is chunk. Well chucks like hey rocky And rocky's like I see your hand got exploded off your body goes That's the great thing about a fireball it uh He's like it like amputated and car rises. Yeah, all it all it wants He's in good spirit spell losing his hand He is and he's also immediately like uh by the way rocky would you fuck me?
Yeah, well Yeah, first he's like can I get a lift and so she's like fine hop on my back and then he like immediately He like reaches around the top of her and grabs her tit and she's like are you serious get off me? And he's like what come on and then yeah, he's like so uh, you think there's a chance for us and she's like well I don't see any other guys around here. So they enter in sort of a friends with benefits sort of situation A deal has been reached. Yeah Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, historic day.
Um, and then the coup de pulls up With jody mike and regi in it and they pick up, uh chunk and rocky and chucks like you again not baldy Yeah, move all the ball. Yeah And they all get in the car and they drive off towards a city that is being uh, Like destroyed by like several silver balls has like mart giant silver balls like over the top of it And that's and that's it. That's the credits. Yeah, so like the war you know, they the war continues they they fight on right Um, but in reality, it's probably just like like you said it's it's regi's big fish moment where he's like Well, who knows?
I mean like all my friends are there and yeah I don't know. It's like the tall man has died several times and there are other ones from other universes come in the back film Right? So it's like yeah regi dies in that one universe sure could be in different regi. I don't know Um, I I like them, you know, I think that these movies are fun metaphors for different things And I like the idea that it's that it is like that this is regi's big fan dying fantasy.
Yeah Yeah, like this movie listen. I like this movie more than big fish Um, so there's that wow no one's head explodes in big fish. No Unfortunately, it got really sick and his head exploded My head just exploded I'm just really fucking hungry. Sure um, also think it's like worth noting the uh, the the rainy koskerelle parallel and sort of like what makes The evil dead movies so good is that they are like silly and ridiculous But also underneath all of that is the very real scary I mean not real but like the actually scary idea That your soul just gets like whisked away to hell sure and then a demon has your body until someone kills your body And then you stay in Mesopotamian hell. Yes So there's like and then I think the phantasm version of that is a little bit more um, you know Heartfelt and yeah, you know, not is just like dark dark dark, but again It's like deal like there are themes ring the theme alarm. We've got themes in this movie. We have themes.
Yeah, it's loss Yes graveyard sex yep tits Aging of course sure yeah Yeah, no, I I think these movies like the whole series or whatever, you know ups and downs But uh, I think it's in general.
