Preparing His bride | Aug 29, 2026 | PHB You have been called into a priesthood that is far more personal and demanding than occupying a religious office. In Christ, priesthood is not reserved for pastors, bishops, teachers, or those who stand before congregations; it is the calling of every believer. Your first responsibility as a priest is not to minister publicly before people, but to draw near to God, know Him, remain before Him, and offer your life to Him. The pattern of the sons of Zadok reveals what God desires: while others drifted with the corruption and idolatry around them, they remained faithful to His presence. In the same way, you must become someone who can remain true to God even when the culture around you, the people you admire, or even religious systems begin moving in another direction. This kind of faithfulness requires that you deliberately grow in the knowledge of God. You cannot understand His ways merely through assumptions, popular Christian culture, or what other people tell you. Give yourself to Scripture. Learn how God has dealt with individuals, nations, kings, priests, rebellion, righteousness, worship, and judgment throughout biblical history. The more deeply you become acquainted with His ways, the more capable you become of recognizing what agrees with His nature and what contradicts it. God has not changed simply because generations, governments, cultures, and religious systems have changed. The world may use different language today, but human desires, corruption, ambition, idolatry, righteousness, and the need for God remain fundamentally the same. Guard your heart carefully because idolatry is not limited to bowing before statues. Your heart can manufacture its own idols. Covetousness, ambition, money, influence, relationships, pleasure, entertainment, ideology, success, and even religious personalities can gradually become objects of devotion. Whatever continually shapes your desires will eventually shape your judgment. Your heart can be trained toward righteousness, but it can also be trained toward corruption. What you repeatedly watch, listen to, admire, discuss, pursue, and fellowship with is educating your inner man. If you constantly expose yourself to values that oppose God, eventually things that once appeared obviously wrong can begin to look reasonable, desirable, or even righteous. For this reason, spiritual maturity must produce discernment. You must learn to distinguish not only between obvious good and obvious evil, but between what merely looks good and what is genuinely holy. You do not need extraordinary spiritual discernment to know that lying, stealing, sexual immorality, deceit, or corruption are wrong. Even society recognizes many of these things. Mature discernment becomes necessary when something is attractive, respectable, profitable, intellectually persuasive, culturally accepted, or religiously impressive and yet carries a nature contrary to God. Your spiritual senses must become trained through continual obedience to the Word until you can recognize where a path is leading before you have walked far down it. You should increasingly be able to ask, “Where is this taking me? What kind of person is this making me? What spirit is shaping my judgment? Does this lead toward holiness or away from God?” The central offering of your priesthood is also not your money. God wants you before He wants what belongs to you. You cannot substitute financial giving, service, donations, or religious activity for surrender. Money cannot purchase intimacy with God, compensate for disobedience, or persuade Him to overlook a life that refuses His government. You cannot buy God. The offering He seeks begins with your own life. Present yourself as a living sacrifice. Give Him your will, your desires, your ambitions, your pleasures, your time, your body, your relationships, your resources, your future, and the things you would naturally prefer to keep for yourself. When your life truly belongs to Him, giving your possessions becomes a natural consequence of devotion rather than an attempt to purchase spiritual approval. Present yourself to God again. Repair the altar where it has fallen into neglect. Give yourself afresh to prayer and Scripture. Ask God to expose the idols that may have quietly formed within your heart. Allow Him to train your senses until you can distinguish the holy from the profane. Refuse to replace surrender with religious activity. Give Him your life before giving Him your possessions. Then take responsibility for what He places in your hands and for the people He places around you. The goal is not simply to carry the name of a priest, but to become one who truly draws near to God, carries His nature, protects what is sacred, and helps others find their way into the same life.
