Mental illness is one of the biggest taboos in our relentlessly productive society. In many cases it is also the background behind what Charles Baudelaire used to called "The irregular vegetable", i.e. the socially maladjusted: the drunkard, the homeless, the prostitute, the drug addict, the beggar, etc. We conversed with Phil Mcvey, a survivor of child abuse, fostering parents, school rejection, youth delinquency, jail, mental institutions, drug and alcohol dependency and homelessness.
