Philippians (Lesson 8)

A single word in Philippians 1:1 can overturn a whole lot of modern church assumptions: bishops plural, deacons plural. That’s where we start, and it quickly turns into a candid, Bible-forward look at church structure, church government, and why so many congregations end up feeling like power struggles instead of spiritual families.We talk through the most common models people experience, including deacon boards that function like bosses, systems where a distant bishop governs multiple churches, and the “one man ministry” approach where one leader answers to no one. Then we measure every model against the New Testament pattern: believers on equal footing in the body of Christ, gifted men serving rather than ruling, and a plurality of biblically qualified elders providing real oversight without lordship.
