Philippians — Week 3

From a prison cell, Paul insists that his chains have actually served to advance the gospel. Philippians 1:12-26 presses a recurring question: does your Christianity trust God that much, even when circumstances make no sense? The Greek behind advance carries the idea of an obstacle removed, and church history, illustrated by the missionaries killed reaching the Waorani people whose killers later came to faith, shows God repeatedly using tragedy to expand his kingdom.
