Philippians — Week 7

The biography section of Philippians 2:19-30 spotlights two men, Timothy and Epaphroditus, as models of what it costs to value the gospel. Timothy's impeccable reputation, mixed-race background, and willingness to do anything for the unity of the church, even circumcision as an adult, illustrate a character worth aspiring to. His genuine concern, distinct from mere interest, and his service alongside rather than merely behind Paul show a partner trusted to address congregational conflict. Epaphroditus, who almost died for the work of Christ, embodies a life staked entirely on the mission, going all in. The recurring question lands personally: what lengths are you willing to go to promote the unity and mission of the church, in worship attendance, service, giving, prayer, and inviting others, and could what was said of these men be said of you?
