Phillies Disappointment Is An Understatement (PST Show #375)

from The Philadelphia Sports Table | Philly Sports News & Views · host The Philadelphia Sports Table

It has been extremely frustrating to watch the Philadelphia Phillies play baseball this season. Sure, they've had their moments, but they are few and far between. There are challenges. There are major struggles. This week, Liz Roscher from Yahoo Sports and the Continued Success podcast on TheGoodPhigh.com's podcast network joined us to talk about this very mediocre Phillies team (at best) that continues to face a ton of challenges early in the season. But first, The Sixers are in a world of s**t as the injury plague has hit them: Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, and Josh Richardson are all having issues with their bodies. What are our overall feelings on where this team is currently at? (approx. 4:46)Then we dove into some Flyers talk as this team is now favorites in the Eastern Conference! Yes, you read that correctly. Would you bet on them to win the Stanley Cup? Well, we know that Erik did. (approx. 12:20)We then discussed which Eagles player are we most looking forward to seeing this coming season on the field. Maybe an older player, a new acquisition? (approx. 19:30)On the Highbrow Segment this week, the NBA and NHL have handled the COVID-19 pandemic better than most people thought. The NFL is starting to see some issues cropping up here and there. However, we can't fairly assess them yet since the season hasn't started. We discussed the two organizations who have handled it poorly: Major League Baseball and the NCAA. We're asking the question, who handled it worse and how have they hurt their sport? (approx. 28:15)This on the Lowbrow Segment, we're doing "Cohost Questions" where we'll ask each other random questions about anything - sports-related or non-sports-related. (approx. 41:15)What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with Liz Roscher from Yahoo Sports and the Continued Success podcast about the current state of this Phillies team. We first asked Liz if there's actually any talent that can get the Phillies out of the current pitching quagmire they are in? From there, we talked about how much longer Vince Velasquez has until Joe Girardi pulls the plug on him. What should fans' expectations of the season be for Spencer Howard after he got smacked around in his MLB debut? What is going on with Scott Kingery and Rhys Hoskins? All of this and much more this week on the Table! (approx. 49:45)Email us at [email protected] to let us know your thoughts about anything and everything Philly sports. We'll read your email on the show and respond.
