Phillies Reflections & Who's To Blame (PST Show #381)

from The Philadelphia Sports Table | Philly Sports News & Views · host The Philadelphia Sports Table

The Philadelphia Phillies regular season is coming to a close, and this week we reflected on this shortened baseball year and who's to blame for the lack of vision within the organization. Ethan Witte from TheGoodPhight.com joined us to dive into this Phillies team and franchise as we look to the future. It's a great interview! But first, we responded to Listener Feedback about our podcast show. (approx. 3:50)We then discussed the floundering Philadelphia Eagles: issues with Carson Wentz, thoughts on Jim Schwartz's defense, and our predictions for the upcoming Bengals game. (approx. 5:30)From there, we talked about the contract extension that was given to a young member of the Philadelphia Flyers, Nicolas Aube-Kubel . (approx. 26:00)On the Highbrow Segment this week, we referenced The Press Box podcast - part of The Ringer network - as they recently discussed the college football season, and specifically the Big Ten coming back at the end of October to play conference games. Coaches and college athletic directors knew the decision to play football wasn't going to be solely about science during the pandemic, but it was going to be about media narrative. They understood this. And we saw how powerful the media narrative was amongst college coaches in August. It was an information war that erupted and displayed front and center the power college football coaches have in the sports world that went directly to the White House. (approx. 32:25)This week on the Lowbrow Segment, we've got a new top-3 list: since we're in the ninth month of the year, we're dishing out our top-3 Philly sports athletes who wore the No. 9. (approx. 45:00)What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview and discussion with Ethan Witte from The Good Phight. First, we reflected on the season and dove into specific players: Rhys Hoskins and Jean Segura. Also, why has Scott Kingery gotten so much play time given his lack of productivity? Then, who's to blame for all of the issues we've seen with this Phillies team here in 2020? Will GM Matt Klentak actually sign J.T. Realmuto? All of this and much more this week on the Table! (approx. 58:50)Email us at [email protected] to let us know your thoughts about anything and everything Philly sports. We'll read your email on the show and respond.
