Philly Voices: David Lynch found inspiration from his time in Philadelphia and PAFA

KYW Newsradio is celebrating 250 years of Philly voices, highlighting Philadelphians throughout history, past and present, who shaped the city and the nation. KYW's Andre Bennett shares more about filmmaker David Lynch. Before "Twin Peaks," Lynch was a struggling student at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. "he at the time was living right around 13th and Wood Street." That's Eric Bresler, who runs PhilaMOCA, a theater and arts space on 12th and Spring Garden, just a few blocks from where Lynch lived in the late 1960s. "His first film Eraserhead was directly inspired by his experiences in that neighborhood, which was a lot rougher, when he was living there than it is these days." And while the city's dark side inspired Lynch's breakthrough, Bresler says his work also reflects a uniquely Philadelphian sense of hope.
