Phonons' Seasonal Mixes :: Spring 2025 :: Subrealist

from Phonons Podcast · host Phonons

EN Phil Gray-Lopez, aka “Subrealist,” Phonons' co-founder. He is a multidisciplinary artist: sculptor/designer, surfer/shaper, DJ & Live. Inspired by Indigenous Peoples, Taoism, Nature, and Biomimicry, he groups his creations under the artistic concept of “Subrealism,” where ancient traditional knowledge and modern science complement each other to produce works that describe “the underside of things” according to the intrinsic laws of Nature. In his explorations with techno music, he transcribes the polyrhythmic structures of traditional music and integrates them into his hybrid sets in Ableton Live in the form of organics loops or percussive samples.
