Guest : Nick Brandt October 9 2011 The iconic wildlife of East Africa is under extreme threat from poaching, climate change and human encroachment on animal habitat. In the hope of raising awareness, photographer Nick Brandt has dedicated much of the past decade to capturing on film the majesty of the elephants, lions, giraffes, cheetahs and array of other animals that live in and around the Amboseli National Park in Kenya. This has resulted in two critically acclaimed books – On This Earth and A Shadow Falls – as well as a forthcoming third book that will complete a trilogy that presents a narrative arc of the impact mankind is having on the environment of this region. An exhibition of these photographs opens this week at the Photographic Museum in Stockholm. Nick Brandt was in town for the opening, and spoke to Think Globally Radio about the moral and political aspects of his work, including the Big Life Foundation that he founded, and his on the ground observations on the complex problems that endanger East African wildlife. Tune in this Sunday for an in-depth discussion with Nick Brandt that goes well beyond photography Download Think Globally Radio 2011 10 09
