Despite the turmoil in his life, he found solace in sports, which numbed him to the pain of his home life.   One day, while passing through the school lunchroom, Wally saw kids playing ping pong and ridiculed them. But when he stumbled upon a pool hall and saw people who looked like him playing the game, he decided to give it a try.
