PIPESTONE COUNTY FAIR: Derby dazzles record crowd

Absence made the heart grow fonder. Or at least the curiousity.  A record attendance watched as the Pipestone County Fair had its first demolition derby since 2012 on a hazy and balmy Saturday, Aug. 8.  “The demolition derby was a huge success,” said Pipestone County Fair board president Skip Moeller. “The weather was perfect and the attendance was the largest on record.” Moeller estimated more than 2,000 tickets were sold; an educated guess.  “Derby participants were amazed by the pit area,” added Moeller.  Drivers began showing up after 2:30 p.m., and vehicles were fully inspected one hour prior to the...
