He got into music by watching recordings of music videos from MTV his friends would record from their VCR and give to him since he only had one or two channels. He was enthralled by the videos, especially Peter Gabriel’s Sledge Hammer. From there his friend showed him how to play guitar, then his road to success led him to getting his first drum set, then he started a band with a friend.He has a rock band named Candy Bone that’s about to release their first single and video from their debut album. He mentions that his band mates have other obligations to other bands and projects, so he created Pistol Black as his outlet. His success meaning as a solo independent artist is that he can do what he wants without anyone telling him what to do.He says as an independent artist, he does the graphic design, marketing, and management himself. His affirmation for success is a One-Man Label. If there was a record deal, there would be people to do that for him, but he would have to pay for it and most likely lose creative control.  He wants to be independent as long as possible.The recording industry can affect the mental health and cause people to just give up. He will not give up. His music career is his life, therapy, and oxygen; his living passion. How does Pistol Black deal with haters? He says he doesn’t get many haters. The haters he gets are usually from his cover songs. His mindset for achievement in dealing with haters is to talk shit right back to them. Once in a while, a hater will turn into a fan.  He and Wes discussed covers such as Johnny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nail’s song “Hurt” and Weezer’s cover of TLC’s “Scrubs.”Pistol Black’s song “You’re Still (my Hometown)” is about how he goes out on the road and stays in other places, but 3 hours from where he lives, there is a lot of filming done.  So he feels though his hard work, he should get support from his hometown, or he better move to Nashville and try something else. What advice does Pistol Black have for people wanting to get into the music industry? Don’t stop! Failure is your friend because every failure is a learning experience.
