Place Your Smartphone Out of Sight

from SocialMediaBreakup · host Johan

In an earlier video, I introduced the idea of a phone lounge. You want to have a designated space where you leave your smartphone, whether you’re in the office, at home, or in the car. When an area becomes a no phone zone. there should be no discussion regarding where to leave your phone. It should be clear that you (and others) simply put the device(s) in the lounge. If your phone lounge is far away and you don’t want to leave it all the way in the lounge, then I recommend the following: Place your phone out of sight. If you have your device close to you, make sure you don’t see it. Even when you’re not consciously looking at it, make sure you can’t see it unconsciously. Your brain is still seeing that phone although your awareness is mainly placed on something else. This “visibility” can still create a level of anxiety and can still reduce your level of focus. It doesn’t matter whether you have your phone upside down or flipped over. It is still there. That’s the problem. That’s why you want to move it somewhere behind you for example. Or in a drawer close by. If you’re working behind a laptop, place your device behind your laptop for example. Just make sure you don’t see it. Having your phone not only in eyesight but “mind-sight” still means his presence is somehow affecting you. It knows you can consciously see it if you just move your head a bit to the left or right. Like your phone is constantly whispering to look at it. Don’t let it. Keep your phone out of sight, or really move it to a designated phone lounge.
