Achara & Michael react to Planet of the Apes (1968), the groundbreaking sci-fi classic that follows a group of astronauts who crash-land on a mysterious planet where intelligent apes rule over humans. As the survivors struggle to understand the world around them, the film unfolds into a thought-provoking story about civilization, power, and humanity itself, blending suspense, adventure, and social commentary into one of science fiction’s most iconic stories. This reaction stands out for its mix of classic sci-fi world-building, philosophical themes, and legendary twists, as Achara & Michael experience the film’s tension, atmosphere, and unforgettable moments in real time. Directed by Franklin J. Schaffner (Patton, Papillon, Nicholas and Alexandra, The Boys from Brazil, Lionheart), and based on the novel by Pierre Boulle (The Bridge on the River Kwai, Planet of the Apes novel, French literary works, war fiction, science-fiction literature), the film stars Charlton Heston (Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, Soylent Green, Omega Man, True Lies), Roddy McDowall (Fright Night, Cleopatra, Batman: The Animated Series, Overboard, A Bug’s Life), Kim Hunter (A Streetcar Named Desire, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Dark Shadows, Born Free), Maurice Evans (Rosemary’s Baby, Bewitched, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Androcles and the Lion, Planet of the Apes sequels), and Linda Harrison (Planet of the Apes sequels, Cocoon, Airport 1975, television sci-fi appearances, cult cinema projects), bringing together a cast tied to classic Hollywood epics, influential science fiction, and iconic genre storytelling that continues to drive strong reaction and crossover audience appeal. ___________________________________________________ We've got merch!
