Los Beatles publicaron su álbum debut, «Please Please Me», en marzo de 1963. El álbum fue producido por George Martin, que había quedado impresionado con la energía del grupo. Martin quiso grabar un elepé en The Cavern, el bar de Liverpool donde, desde 1961, Los Beatles habían tocado cerca de 300 veces, pero no era el escenario apropiado. Por tanto, el productor llevó al grupo al estudio EMI de la calle Abbey Road, en Londres y grabó el álbum en una sesión maratoniana de 10 horas el 11 de febrero de 1963. «Please Please Me» permaneció más de un año en el Top 10 de las listas británicas tras ser publicado a mediados de marzo de 1963 y solo bajó del primer puesto para acomodar el segundo álbum de los Beatles, en mayo de 1963. Pronto se convirtió en uno de los mejores álbumes debut de todos los tiempos.
