PM Justin Trudeau on EV battery plant investment, health care, interest rate hike final

from Policy and Rights · host Michael Clogs

In Kingston, Ont., Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces a partnership with Umicore, a materials technology and recycling company, to bring a facility for the production of electric vehicle batteries to the province. The new net-zero facility will be built in Loyalist Township and is expected to create 1,000 jobs during its construction and hundreds of permanent positions. He is joined by François-Philippe Champagne (federal minister of innovation, science and industry), Vic Fedeli (Ontario’s minister of economic development, job creation and trade), Mathias Miedreich (CEO of Umicore), Ric Bresee (MPP for Hastings—Lennox and Addington) and Jim Hegadorn (deputy mayor, Loyalist Township). The prime minister responds to questions on the Bank of Canada’s move to increase its key interest rate a full percentage point to 2.5 per cent, his government’s decision to return turbine equipment to Germany for a pipeline that carries natural gas from Russia, and the calls from provincial and territorial premiers for a meeting to discuss the future of federal health transfers.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/policy-and-rights--3339563/support.
