Le savant connait le nom des plantes. Le poète les appelle par leur prénom (Alain Borer - Poète et écrivain francais,spécialiste d’Arthur Raimbaud) L’Observatoire du Monde des Plantes (OMP) est un site de l’Université de Liège crée en 1996 situé dans le domaine universitaire du Sart-Tilman. Il est constitué d’une grande serre divisée en plusieurs parties qui de présentent certains biomes de notre planète : une serre tempérée, une serre à climat méditerranéen, une serre tropicale et une serre de climat désertique chaud. Elles mettent en avant certaines formations végétales typiques ou thématiques comme l’histoire évolutive des plantes terrestres, la coévolution plantes-animaux (espèces myrmécophiles, espèces carnivores ou encore certaines espèces ou mécanismes biologiques exceptionnels. Depuis 2008, l’ensemble des collections botaniques de ce site remarquable sont gérées par l’asbl des Espaces botaniques universitaires de Liège. Son rôle: la conservation des collections botaniques, qui contiennent quelques espèces devenues rarissimes à l’état naturel, ainsi que l’éducation et la sensibilisation du public à la botanique et à l’écologie, dans tous les aspects que comprennent ces disciplines. Le public visé par la diffusion de ces sciences mise en place à l’Observatoire du Monde des Plantes est varié puisqu’il comprend les élèves de tous enseignements, les étudiants de l’Université de Liège ou d’ailleurs, le grand public et les chercheurs.
