#PODCAST Environmental award recipients call on the President to withdraw oil and gas exploration off SA's coastline #sabcnews

By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - In a last-ditch attempt to get government to prioritise climate change, five of the country's top environmental award recipients have written to the President pleading to withdraw the National Petroleum Company Bill, and all oil and gas exploration off South Africa's coastline. This come as the COP28 Climate Summit is underway in Dubai. The letter was written by the Goldman Environmental Prize winners – Liz McDaid, Makoma Lekalakala, Desmond D'Sa, Jonathan Deal and Bobby Peek. The Goldman Environmental Prize is awarded annually to grassroots environmental activists, one from each of the world's six geographic regions.
