Pretending to be a boyfriend wasn’t part of my plans, but she was scared. I dropped my arm over her shoulder and played the part of the doting boyfriend. I should have made sure she got home safely by calling her a cab or rideshare. But after an unexpected night laughing more than I had in months, I couldn’t say no when she asked if I wanted company in my hotel room. I also overheard him telling the bartender that he could squeeze him in for a cover-up next week. Roger may not have told me he’s a tattoo artist, but I paid attention and figured it out.
