By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Democracy and Law promotion organisation, Freedom Under Law has welcomed the decision of the National Assembly to vote in favour of the impeachment of Judge President of the Western Cape High Court John Hlophe from office. 27 MPs voted against and 305 voted in favour of his impeachment. Hlophe was found guilty of gross misconduct for trying to influence two constitutional court judges in 2008 to vote in favour of former president Jacob Zuma in his corruption case with French Arms Company, Thales. The National Assembly also resolved for the removal of the retired judge of the Gauteng High Court Division Nkola Motata. Hlophe and Motata will become the first judges in democratic South Africa to be impeached.
