By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - The Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMA-SA) has expressed frustration at the lack of communication from the National Department of Health regarding a draft policy stipulating that head scarves will not be allowed to be worn by on duty nurses. The department recently informed provincial health authorities of the nurses uniform policy which outlines the dress code standards for nurses to ensure hygiene, safety and patient comfort. Nursing Director at the Islamic Medical Association, Sister Haniefa Bi Allee says this goes against the countries constitution of a persons right to practise their religion without prejudice and cannot be tolerated... ** In a written response to Newsbreak, the National Department of Health says they are still working on the draft policy on nurses uniform - which they will communicate and distribute once it's approved. The old draft policy has been reviewed.
