#PODCAST Independent testing reveals critically high levels of E. coli at various Durban beaches #sabcnews

By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Independent tests have revealed critically high levels of the bacteria, E.Coli at five Durban beaches. Results by the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology (IWWT) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) show levels more than 50 times the acceptable bathing benchmark. These beaches include Addington, Bay of Plenty, Virginia, Umhlanga and Laguna. These results come days after the eThekwini Municipality announced that 22 of its 23 beaches were open and safe for swimming. Director of the Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology (IWWT) at DUT, Professor Faizal Bux says these beaches should be closed until E.Coli levels are at an acceptable number....
