This comes as the country celebrates the 82.9 matric pass rate- the highest ever since democracy. The IRR cites that in 2023 only 691-thousand learners sat down for the final exams, compared to the 725 thousand in 2022. They say the latest matric results do not show how learners are being retained in the schooling system.
