MISSION, RGV - Laredo-based Killam Development has acquired approximately 3,400 acres in Mission and McAllen from Hunt Valley Development. According to Killam, the property will be the site of a “large master planned development that will include places for people of all generations to live, work and play. It will include walkable neighborhoods, walking trails and park space, connections to entertainment and commercial districts and education centers.”The purchase also includes opportunity for commercial industrial development near the Anzalduas International Bridge. The public and community stakeholders will be asked what they want to see included in the development beginning with a series of public workshops in January. In the above podcast, Rio Grande Guardian editor Steve Taylor interviews Cliffe Killam, a partner at Killam Development, Daniel Silva, executive director of Mission Economic Development Corporation, and Mission Mayor Armando O’Caña.We also hear from Mario A. Peña, of Able City, the company that will be conducting the public workshops for Killam.Cliffe Killam said: “We want this to be a special place that people are proud of and excited about because they helped build it. This will be a hands-on design process. We will turn citizen-inspired ideas into a comprehensive vision that becomes reality, resulting in something bigger and better because we did it together.”Construction could begin early next year, with home sales anticipated by the fall of 2020.
