Earlier in the week, Newsbreak reported on several cases of land invasion taking place at Burlington in Shallcross south of Durban. eThekwini Municipality Senior Manager for the Security Management Unit, Nqobile Phewa says cases of land invasions have been rapidly increasing in areas such as Verulam and Buffelsdraai in the north while Shallcross and Nagina in the south are also being targeted. Phewa says due to the capacity issues, the city has an understanding with law enforcement to step in when its unit is unavailable. He says the Land Invasion Unit (LIU) operates from 7am to 4pm which is also posing to be an obstacle as these incidents usually occur late in the day...
